Riverbank Farm serves as one of the primary test sites for the
American Association of Riding Schools. You can enjoy a riding
lesson program that has national support in its dedication to
offering you, the novice rider, the most comprehensive and enjoyable
introduction to the sport and hobby of horses.
Owner Colleen Pace
brings a great deal of experience and a lifetime of horse enjoyment to
your lesson program. She purchased her first horse with
babysitting money when she was fifteen years old. After
graduating high school, Colleen trained under U.P.H.A. Horseman of the
Year, Arvil Brown at Sunny Hill Stables in Holt, Michigan. In
1975 she opened SummerBreeze Stables in Owosso; and after marrying her
husband, Gary, opened Riverbank Farm in Davison.
During the
mid-1980s, Colleen's son, Andy, competed on the Michigan Morgan Horse
circuit with his little red mare, SummerBreeze's Storm; while Colleen
volunteered as a youth leader for the state club. Andy and Storm
placed second in the state in English Pleasure for Youth
Ten-Years-and-Younger at the Michigan All-Morgan Horse Show in
Detroit.
Over 450 youth and adult riders have been introduced to riding under
Colleen'
s
supervision at Riverbank Farm. Over 2,500 Girl Scouts have
earned their Horse Lovers Badge at Riverbank and, in 1995, Storm was
named "Animal of the Year" by the Genesee County Humane Society, for
her (and Colleen's) work with novice riders, scouts, and school and
community groups.
In 1998, with an
honors degree in business from the University of Michigan-Flint,
Colleen founded the American Association of Riding Schools, the
nation's first comprehensive riding program designed especially for
non-horse-owners. She continues to oversee the program at
Riverbank Farm including private instruction, scout and school
programs, birthday parties, and pony experiences for children too
young for lessons. She is supported by two additional highly
qualified instructors and six excellent schooling horses.
From her
smallest rider to her adult trail riders, Colleen knows how to make
the experience a "just right for me" one.
A telephone
visit with Colleen will answer your questions, and a visit to the
